Nick is our Waltz and Polka dj for dancing from 9pm to midnight

Nick and Melissa teach bachata and mazurka clandestina.

7 PM - Bachata: Popular around the world, bachata is a Latin dance that combines the sultry sex appeal of salsa with the relaxed elegance of nightclub two step. A wide variety of different social dance variations can be adapted to bachata, allowing you to turn up the heat on all your favorite figures. It’s also a great dance for a hot night, as demonstrated here in Hanoi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I86W_GsU-wA

8 PM - Mazurka Clandestina, Part III: Since learning mazurka clandestina (also called tango mazurka) two weeks ago, Nick and Melissa have invented more than 20 new variations for it, based on tango, salsa, and other dances. We’ll teach you some of our favorite new figures, and as a bonus, show you how to adapt any mazurka clandestina variation into traditional social tango in 4/4 time. Although based on the same concepts, this class will be independent from Richard’s two classes in mazurka clandestina, meaning you don’t need to know anything from those classes to succeed in this one, and everything we teach aside from the basic step will be completely new. Here’s one of our favorite new variations, adapted from tango: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-tryw0INoI

Joan Walton is our instructor tonight assisted by Kimber Rudo for the intermediate classes from 7 to 9pm

I asked Joan if she could create a two hour tour of the history of waltzes. On August 8, Joan is teaching 19th and 20th Century waltzes. I think this will be a really fun class and very instructive how what different waltzes danced like and how they felt. I have taken many historical classes from Joan in the past, and I am sure you will greatly enjoy the historic waltz classes- Scott G co producer FNW.

Tonight you can get the full historical sweep of the birth and development of the WALTZ. We will touch lightly on many topics to show the changes over time.

7pm 19th Century Waltz Starting with 19th Century waltz at 7:00pm,The 1816 early waltz will be followed by two versions of mid-century waltzing, Mazurka Waltz variations and finish with Reverse Waltz, sometimes called Viennese.

8pm 20th Century Waltz The 8:00pm class will continue with the 20th Century: Ragtime Hesitation Waltz, followed by the Box Waltz, French Boston, and today's improvisatory, creative Cross Step Waltz.

bwSeptember 19 Congress of Vienna Ball

Friday Night Waltz will be celebrating our 500th dance September 19, 2014!
And the 200 th anniversary of the Congress of Vienna

Brassworks will be playing tonight
CONGRESS OF VIENNA BALL. It has now been 200 years since the convening of the Congress of Vienna."Le congres ne marche pas, il danse". Historical link.
The Congress of Vienna popularized the waltz throughout Europe. The Congress of Vienna was called to divide Europe after the defeat of Napolean.
The diplomats argued by day, and danced and partied at night. The Congress of Vienna Waltz was choreographed by John Hertz of Los Angeles
(inspired by illustrations in Regency-period dance manuals) to music that he edited and assembled himself from recordings of three more-or-less period Swedish waltzes.
In addition to being danced at Friday Night Waltz, the Congress of Vienna Waltz is also danced at PEERS and Gaskell Ball dances. Music for the Congress of Vienna
is available from Brassworks and Bangers and Mash.

Also, in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the actual Congress of Vienna, we will play playing 3 Congress of Vienna dances.

We will have very many fast Viennese Waltz dances also.
